1015 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck, NY 10543, United States

Centrally located, just 21 miles north of New York City is the Mamaroneck Motel. This family-owned motel gives you a home-away-from-home atmosphere when you need a place to stay in beautiful Westchester County. Although the website doesn’t do it justice, it’s a fabulous retro motel that you wouldn’t notice if you didn’t know it was there. The motel has 34 rooms that surround a circular flower filled courtyard. The retro streamlined style is well kept and has a fun atmosphere including a fantastic pizza restaurant just out front (it used to be the motel restaurant).

Mid-Century Style Magazine received an email from Jenny G – of “The Romantic Gringo” that they were making an automotive pilgrimage from Detroit to Carefree, AZ for the holidays, and stopped in Tucumcari for the night. The Buckaroo sounds like exactly our sort of place – not even a website available!:“The Buckaroo…did not disappoint: it was cheap, clean, un-renovated, and un-updated (which is to say dated, as R.G. commends). Well, the mattresses have been updated, which R.G. appreciates, but the rest of the decor gives the proper time capsule vibe. Fake wood paneling, padded headboards, vintage furniture. The owners are sweet and sensible. It’s just good there.”

The Historic Route 66 motel was built in the International Style that was enormously popular in the mid 20th Century. You can just see Don and Megan Draper pull up out front for a 60’s weekend away!

The lobby is probably one of the most distinctive mid-century modern (MCM) public spaces in any small economy motel built during the 1950’s and 60’s. Michael and Cathy Fulton, the owners who left their real estate jobs and moved to Tucumcari from back east to renovate this fabulous motel, have kept a lot of the original furnishings and upgraded the bedding to provide a fabulous, clean, retro motel room. The neon lighted Circa Espresso Bar, attached to one wing of the hotel, provides a pleasing atmosphere for enjoying gourmet coffee products, cool smoothie drinks, teas, and a variety of baked goods on the celebrated “66?.
